Introduction

The Englehart Tarts started with a promise. The promise was,"when we retire we must keep in touch". This promise was hard to keep. Then one fateful day Linda Lenart (Queen of Tarts) saw a program on TV about the Red Hat Society. The Red Hat Society is for women fifty or over . Sue Ellen Cooper, the authur and founder of the Red Hat Society's book " Fun and Friendship After Fifty" shares what she discovered, that fun really does begin at fifty! The Red Hat Society is a" disorganization" of women from all walks of life. It is a place where women can share their lives and make their own fun. When some are winding down, the Red Hatters are just getting started. There are no rules and no bylaws. The Society is structured to the whims and wishes of it's members, and together they can celebrate the joys of growing old gracefully and gleefully! Linda knew this would be a perfect group for us! So the promise became an idea.Start a Red Hat Chapter.

Linda approached Barb Edwards (Barbie Bubbles) about her idea and they decided to start a chapter together. It was a few months before this idea became a reality.Linda and Barb put their heads together and invited their co-workers and retired co-workers to a party! Linda bought red and pink (pink is for women under 50) ball caps and as the ladies entered the room, they were presented with a hat and a big smile...."welcome to The Red Hat Society". This is how the Englehart Tarts was started and a promise became a reality. We do not stop playing because we are old, we grow old because we stop playing!
